In comments to Entertainment Weekly, previewing Tracker season 2’s debut on Sunday, October 13 at 8 PM ET on CBS, showrunner Elwood Reid teased that a secret will be revealed regarding Colter and Russell’s father. It’s connected to a memory about Ashton, which Russell has, but Colter does not. Read the quote below:
“[Russell] comes in at the highest point. There’s a secret that is revealed about their father in the first episode that lands with both brothers. There’s a memory you’ll see that Colter doesn’t have that his brother does about Colter and their father.”
The Mystery Of Ashton’s Death Continues, Though The Brothers Reconciled
It’s Unclear Who Killed Ashton.
Colter Shaw has a complicated family history, going back to one night in 2003. Without his wife present, Ashton took off running. He’s fueled by his paranoia, or at least that’s how Colter remembers it. In any case, Russell follows after Ashton, and Colter finds their father dead an hour later. For a long time, Colter believed that Russell pushed their father to his death, but Russell denied this. Given that tense background, the brothers reconciled when Russell appeared in season 1, episode 12.

The two siblings even work a case together, joking around about Russell’s unimpressive flirting methods. It’s confirmed that Russell will return in the second episode of Tracker season 2, potentially making more appearances depending on the storyline and availability of actor Jensen Ackles. But with Russell confirmed to be in more than one episode, the mystery of Ashton’s death becomes critical, thanks to the reveals in the Tracker season 1 finale.
The hit show, which is based on The Never Game novel by Jeffrey Deaver, and created by Ben H. Winters, ends its first installment with the revelation that Ashton had an affair. It points a sign at Colter’s mother as the suspect in his murder. But in any case, there is a lot more in store for the rest of Tracker’s supporting characters. That’s especially true with the unexpected and unexplained departure of original cast member Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin.
