Blue Bloods star Len Cariou has been married to Heather Summerhayes Cariou for over three decades.
The pair tied the knot on October 25, 1985. They live in New Jersey, the perfect spot for Len’s TV career and Heather’s work as an author.
It’s no secret Blue Bloods fans adore seeing Len Cariou’s character former Commissioner Henry “Pop” Reagan on their televisions. And though the seasoned actor graces the screen with every episode, Len’s career goes far beyond the many seasons of the cop show. And, in his personal life, the 81-year-old actor has been happily married to his wife, Heather Summerhayes Cariou, for over 35 years.
Decades before Blue Bloods aired its first episode, Len was part of the original cast of not one, but two of Stephen Sondheim’s musicals during the 1970s. The first was A Little Night Music in 1973, which was also extended into a film version of the piece, where he starred opposite Elizabeth Taylor. The next Sondheim show was the popular Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street in 1979 alongside the iconic actress Angela Lansbury. The show was an all-around success and it brought Len a Tony and a Drama Desk Award for his work as the musical’s protagonist.
His other Broadway acting credits include: Dance a Little Closer in 1983; Teddy & Alice in 1987; The Speed of Darkness in 1991; The Dinner Party in 2000; Proof in 2002. In addition to his acting roles, Carious also directed the 1975 Broadway show Don’t Call Back. Most recently, in 2018, Len produced and starred in a one-man show entitled Broadway & The Bard An Evening of Shakespeare and Song. In this limited show, Len combines his two main passions in theater: Shakespeare soliloquies and music.
But it seems, nothing compares to his relationship with his wife, Heather. Heather, who is an award-winning actress, ballerina, author and ethnographer, married Len on October 25, 1986. Len was previously married twice. Although we have few details of their wedding, this throwback post from Heather honoring the couple’s 30-year anniversary shows just how happy and stunning the couple was during the event.
Today, from what we can see from Heather’s Facebook posts, the two thoroughly enjoy going to the theater together, spending time with friends, and exploring their neighborhood in New Jersey.
