Fans of Netflix romantic drama series are keen to know more about the darker aspects of the story featuring drug cartel boss Melissa Montgomery and her brother Nick.
Virgin River is known for its more melodramatic, soapy storylines involving unexpected pregnancy, love triangles and blossoming romances.
However, the Netflix series does also have some weightier storylines, notably Brady (played by Ben Hollingsworth) and his dealings with drug lord Melissa Montgomery (Barbara Pollard).
The troubled former Marine was coerced into working for Melissa in season five, part one with Brady teaming up with LAPD detective Mike Valenzuela (Marco Grazzini) to take Melissa down.
Brady put himself in grave danger as he tried to gather evidence against Melissa and her illicit operations at Emerald Lumber.
She was even planning to use Jack Sheridan’s (Martin Henderson) campervan and glamping business to launder her drug money.
Did Nick know about sister Melissa’s drug business in Virgin River?
However, in the climactic finale to season five, part one, Brady and Jack managed to take down Melissa.
Mike ended up close to death after he was shot but the drug boss was arrested and it seemed Melissa would be heading behind bars for her crimes.
Jo Ellen (Gwynyth Walsh) suggested her husband Nick (Keith MacKechnie), Melissa’s brother was left shocked after his sister was arrested.
From the sound of things, Nick was in the dark about Melissa’s shady business plans despite being involved in some of the business and encouraging Jack’s glamping venture.
Jo Ellen also previously confessed to her sewing circle how Melissa was very closed off from her, suggesting her sister-in-law kept her at a distance.
This would imply she had no idea about Melissa’s true nature.
Although Nick appears to have also been unaware of his sibling’s illegal business, he too seems to have a dark side.
In the first-ever episode of Virgin River, Hope McCrea (Annette O’Toole) described Nick as being “handsy” to Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) when she told the nurse practitioner she could stay at the local bed and breakfast the couple owned .
Depending on the direction the writers wanted to take the storyline, Virgin River could turn Nick into a villain and have him involved in the drug plotline.
Then again, with Calvin (David Cubitt) now back in town, it looks like the drug Lord could just get his business back up and running with Melissa now out of the picture.
Season five, part two could give some further hints about what happens with the drug business after Brady was known to have taken down Melissa.
Despite going straight, Brady’s ex-girlfriend Brie Sheridan (Zibby Allen) didn’t trust him.
