Virgin River fans cannot wait for the drama’s return while others need reminding of what happened in season five.
The heartwarming Netflix show was last seen in November 2023 for a two-part Christmas special with subscribers told Virgin River will return sometime in early 2025.
Some fans are still catching up on the events of season five, however, with many questioning what happened to Mel Monroe’s (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) baby.
Nurse practitioner and trained midwife Mel’s first child was a stillbirth so she was cautiously happy when she fell pregnant in season four.
She was well aware that it would be a risky pregnancy and unfortunately, she didn’t have the happy ending fans were hoping for.
In season five, wildfires broke out and Mel was keen to help any locals that were in need of some assistance.
But before she was able to do her bit, Mel realised that she was bleeding and performed an ultrasound on herself to check the baby.
Sadly, it wasn’t a false alarm as it became clear that Mel had a miscarriage but nevertheless, she needed to step up and help treat the injured, despite the devastating realisation.
Breckenridge has previously spoken out about the importance of including such an emotional storyline.
Opening up to Tudum, the star explained: “I felt like it was an important story to tell. Not everyone gets their miracle baby.
“And so, talking to a friend of mine who had dealt with fertility issues, it seemed as though we were going to be talking about it in an honest way that would be appreciated by women who have experienced that.
“It was very hard for me, though. There was a lot of crying. It’s a really sad storyline, but in the end, I think Mel comes out of it on the other side in a better way.”
