Virgin River fans threaten to boycott series after devastating Mel Monroe twist

Virgin River season five dropped its first 10 episodes earlier this week and fans were hoping Mel Monroe and Jack Sheridan would finally find happiness but that wasn’t the case.

Virgin River picked up with Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) expecting her first child, a baby girl, with Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson).

To enjoy she took it easy during her high risk pregnancy, Mel resigned from her post at the clinic so she could relax.

However, as the season progressed, Mel was pulled back to being a nurse when a wildfire threatened to tear through Virgin River.

As she helped Cameron (Mark Ghanimé) with patients, she was seen excusing herself to go to the toilet.

It was then she realized she had been bleeding and immediately had herself an ultrasound in the exam room.

In heartbreaking scenes, Mel learned she had lost the baby.

However, she put on a brave face and continued to help those impacted by the wild fire.

It wasn’t until the next episode when she told Jack she’d miscarried and he was seen hugging her.

Despite Virgin River handling the scenes with care, viewers have shared their anger at Mel being unable to have the future she wants.

Reddit user Complete-Road-3229 posted: “I am SCREAMING! I always wanted Jack and Mel to move into the farm. I was so sad it burned down but they still get the land! PERFECT! And Mel still wants to try for kids !

“I still hate you writers for making her lose her baby, though. We won’t forget that.”

Dangerous-Arrival-88 added: “Me too I told my sister I was done watching the show.”

Beneficial-Thought82 commented: “I do not understand it either. I was hoping they would be able to fix all the issues they destroyed last season but instead they just made it worse. This poor woman can’t catch a break.”

Unonuon continued: “When it happened, I’m like no way would they do this. This is TV show suicide. No way.

“I kept thinking, oh she’s just bleeding, baby was hiding during ultrasound(idk!) and then when she came home from her appointment, I was just so devastated.
