Virgin River’s Denny star was actually up for a different role before he took on Doc’s grandson.
The heartwarming Netflix series returned in late 2023 for season five with the final two festive episodes coming out in November.
Denny (played by Kai Bradbury) and Lizzie’s (Sarah Dugdale) relationship was going from strength to strength, despite him revealing he has Huntington’s Disease.
It was discovered in the series finale that Lizzie was pregnant, much to the couple’s delight, who cannot wait to start their family.
But actor Bradbury was actually in the running to play a slightly different role in Virgin River.
Talking on the YouTube show Chatting with B, the 29-year-old explained: “It was pretty straightforward, I initially auditioned for Parker, Lizzie’s boyfriend from Los Angeles.
“That was the first audition for Virgin River that I had and then very shortly after, I got an audition for Denny and it was plainly that scene you saw in season three.
“At the time, it would have been November 2020 so we were in deep pandemic times, most actors had switched from auditioning in the room to auditioning at home with our own tapes.
“So that’s what I did and I got almost to come back as a regular so that was awesome.”
After she broke up with Ricky (Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey), Lizzie reconciled with her ex-boyfriend Parker, who was played by actor Markian Tarasiuk.
He arrived in season three to try and convince her to move back to Los Angeles with him, even asking if she would accompany him on a road trip across the country.
Thankfully, Lizzie eventually saw the light and realized that it wasn’t the right decision to get back with her cheating ex-boyfriend and so sent him on his way.
This in turn made room for Denny who Lizzie has seemed to have fallen head over heels for in the recent series.
There will be plenty more to come from the loved-up pair as well as Virgin River is going to return for a sixth season.
