Virgin River Season 5’s biggest cliffhanger leads to spinoff series
After creators implied that Virgin River Season 6 wasn’t going to come out until 2025, fans have been a little unsure of what to do with themselves in the meantime – until now.
Many have chosen to re-watch Seasons 1-5 on Netflix, while others have clamored over other promising news, such as the announcement of Ransom Canyon.
Now officially in the run-up to Season 6‘s production, the world of Virgin River has more exciting news in the form of an unexpected spinoff.
Virgin River Season 5’s biggest cliffhanger leads to spinoff series
According to a report from Deadline, a Virgin River spinoff is officially in the works, inspired by Season 5’s biggest cliffhanger.
By the end of Part 2, viewers learn that newcomer Everett is Mel’s biological father – although he is very reluctant to the idea of suddenly being her father. In the closing scene, he appears on Mel’s doorstep claiming that he has something to tell her, just as the screen cuts to black.
The report suggests that the Virgin River spinoff will explore the relationship origin story between Everett and Mel’s mother, Sarah, with Season 6 allegedly offering up flashbacks of the pair in their youth.
Meanwhile, Season 6 has officially begun filming, with the casting team currently scouting for actors to appear as “guest stars” in new episodes.
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith also told Deadline “What we’re exploring more in Season 6 is who Everett Reid is, what his backstory is, what his connection to Virgin River was when he met her mom and then also what it is today… [the ] relationship of Everett with the town as well as Everett and Mel.”
Over on social media, the reaction to the spinoff news is already mixed. One Redditor mused “These never do well. The actors will be too old to look 10 years younger. But given how VR doesn’t follow laws of time the prequel could be 1 week ago and take 5 seasons lol.”
“It’s a prequel about Mel’s Mother and Father so they’ll be casting new actors to play Everett and Sarah,” another chimed in.
Ever since the dramatic cliffhanger at the end of Season 5 Part 2, fans have been clamoring for more episodes of Virgin River.
With Christmas finally out of the way, the storyline is set to get back to the bigger matters in hand – namely, what on Earth Everett wants to tell Mel after suddenly reappearing in her life.
It’s now been announced that filming for Virgin River Season 6 has finally started, but the update is not without its bad news.
