Virgin River actress Alexandra Breckenridge has revealed that she’s caught Covid-19 for the fourth time, sharing her ordeal through Instagram Stories.
The star of the popular Netflix series appeared distressed as she talked about a new symptom she’s facing, one she hadn’t encountered with previous infections.
Despite her current health challenges, production for the sixth season of Virgin River, which concluded in June, is unlikely to be affected by her diagnosis. New episodes are expected to drop in 2025.
She also voiced her worries about potentially not recovering from one of the virus’s more severe effects, having looked into its long-term consequences.
“It’s finally happened to me,” she lamented, suffering from a sore throat during her latest social media post.
“This is the fourth time I’ve had Covid in as many years as it’s been around.”
Breckenridge noted that she didn’t catch the virus in its first year, finding it “crazy” that she managed to return to work by August 2020.
“However, this is my fourth time having it,” she continued, visibly exasperated by the situation.
“It’s not so bad. I mean, I had a rough night. I had very intense sinus pressure and pain.
“So, I’m on some strong painkiller right now because it was so horrific.”
In a concerning revelation, she explained the most distressing part of her recent experience with Covid: “I’ve just realized that I’ve lost my sense of smell.
“That has never happened before and I’m really bummed about it. I hope it comes back.
“Apparently some people it doesn’t. And I love to smell, I love cooking and smelling my food. So, I’m just really sad.”
A 2023 study revealed that approximately 60 percent of American individuals who contracted Covid in 2021 experienced a loss of smell, with around a quarter of them never fully regaining it.
Fans can anticipate new episodes of Virgin River to be released sometime in 2025, as post-production begins after filming from February to June.
