Will there be a Season 2 of Tracker?
The lone-wolf survivalist is coming back with bigger mysteries!
The massive season premiere of “Tracker” following Super Bowl LVIII, brought in 30 million multiplatform viewers, making the action-drama series the No. 1 most-watched show on CBS. And it comes as no surprise that the second season was renewed soon after the finale aired back in May 2024.
The hit series created by Ben H. Winters consistently outperformed in viewership when compared to other shows on the network. Due to this, fans will soon get the chance to see how Colter Shaw’s story expands in the next season, which will be off the air just until the next fall broadcast schedule begins.

Until the hiatus looming over the fans, they have been clamoring to get some behind-the-scenes insight into the series production. All thanks to the suspenseful finale leaving viewers on the edge of their seats, questioning what the future holds for their favorite characters.

To put some rest on speculation running rampant across social media, series star Justin Hartley recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Deadline, confirming what mysteries Colter will uncover surrounding his family after the mind-blowing first season cliffhanger finale.

What did Justin Hartley have to say about ‘Tracker’ Season 2?

While talking about what role Colter’s sister and mother will have in the second season, Hartley, 47, tried to refrain from giving early spoilers but shared his interest in wrapping up all these stories in a pretty little bow. To make the next chapter much better than its first season, he expressed his desire to delve into the bigger picture filled with “deeper questions.”

“I think we did that in answering some of these questions that we had built up all year.” He further added, “I think we did a good job of making sure that the answers to those questions then lead to a bigger mystery, something that we can unpack in Season 2.”

The chances of his character reconciling with his estranged older brother, Russell Shaw played by Jensen Ackles, are also on the table. Hartley hinted that Colter is a percentage guy, by the end of Episode 12, he’s 95% sure that Russell didn’t do it.

Reflecting further on the finale, Hartley said, “You find out that Lizzie has been talking to Russell every once in a while. There’s something else is going on. So maybe he didn’t push him, but did he plan something? He knows a lot of information about that night that Colter doesn’t know. It’s very odd.”

“There’s their stuff in this box that they’re not sharing it with Colter. There’s a reason for that.” He continues, “He thinks that he had nothing to do with anything or doesn’t have any knowledge about his father’s death? And that he’s completely in the dark just like Colter is? I don’t think that’s the case either.”

In addition to this, being an executive producer on the show, Hartley likes to brainstorm ideas which he has already been planning out with his collaborators Elwood Reid, and Ken Olin.

“We make every effort to nail every single point. We’re not 100%. We make mistakes all the time. In every episode, we make mistakes, I’m sure. I know that I do. But that’s not intentional, it’s not for lack of effort. We’re trying to make it perfect. Eventually, we’ll get there. When we make it perfect, we’ll stop. But until we make it perfect, we’ll keep doing more.”

Which cast members will return in ‘Tracker’ Season 2?

On the topic of the most looming question, whether Hartley’s real-life partner, Sofia Pernas who plays Billie Matalon will be returning on the show or not? “The Noel Diary” actor assured the fans that Billie, despite being cast in a guest role for the first season, is definitely coming back!

“We have some pretty cool stuff for her to do next year. She’ll be back several times next year. We have plans to bring back my whole my family…We have a lot of questions to answer with Colter’s mother,” he shares while asserting his hopes for Jennifer Morrison to return in the new season. She starred as Lizzy Hawking in a guest role appearance.

“Jennifer Morrison does this really wonderful performance. I think we’d be remiss not to bring her back. We built this really great group of actors [who are] hopefully more than willing to come back, because we’d love to play more with them. We have a bunch of stories to tell with all [of them],” he concludes.
The other cast members who are expected to return in the second season include Robin Weigert as Teddi Bruin; Abby McEnany as Velma Bruin; Eric Graise as Bob Exley; and Fiona Rene as Reenie. Moreover, some new cast members might also join the show, depending on the outcome, which will be confirmed by the network once the production commences later this year.
Where to stream: The first season of “Tracker” is currently available to stream on CBS and Paramount+, based on the user’s location.
