Woodstock Arts Presenting ‘Steel Magnolias’ Starting Friday
Woodstock Arts will present “Steel Magnolias” starting Friday through Feb. 25.
The play, set in 1980s Louisiana, is about the enduring love of female friendship through every phase of life — from the joy of new connections to the grief that comes when it is least expected.
Through humor, heart, and never-ending conversation, a close-knit group of women tackle the world head-on in the oasis of Truvy’s beauty salon, letting even the most mundane moments in life be cause for celebration and support.
Talking about the play, Director Delaney Circe said “women can be funny, yes of course – but women can also be angry, imperfect, and multi-faceted – and none of these things rob them of their beauty or worth.””I hope audiences see the consistent and ever-present throughline of genuine love that this group of friends share, love that by its very nature, is unconditional and fierce,” Circe said. “Even in the most seemingly mundane of places, there can be a safety and holiness that comes with being in community with those you care for, whether you’re grieving together or teasing the daylights out of each other.”
“Steel Magnolias” will run Friday to Feb. 25 at the Woodstock Arts Theatre, 8534 Main St. in downtown Woodstock. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays.
During Sunday matinee showings of “Steel Magnolias,” mimosas will be available for purchase at the concessions.
