‘Yellowstone’ and What We Know About the Spinoffs

Although the Paramount Network hit has come to an end, Taylor Sheridan’s series continues to expand.

Yellowstone is preparing to gallop off into the sunset. But even though the former flagship series starring Kevin Costner is ending in November, the Yellowstone universe is still very much alive and kicking.

After the success of the prequel Yellowstone 1883, creator Taylor Sheridan continues to travel back in time on the Dutton family tree with 1923, which has been renewed for a second season in early 2023 and is currently in production.

While the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strike halted production on films through 2023—including Yellowstone and 1923—once the strikes ended and work resumed, Paramount Network revealed that not only are the Dutton films back on track, but the series is expanding with (at least) two more spinoffs.

Here’s a rundown of all the series in the Yellowstone universe from The Hollywood Reporter.

The Paramount Network flagship series started it all in 2018 and will release its fifth and final season on November 10.

The Kevin Costner-led Yellowstone will end with its fifth season as the star pursues other projects.

The Kevin Costner-led family ranching series has consistently built up audiences season after season, with the season five premiere breaking ratings records and scoring the biggest overnight debut ever for a series.

After star Costner ran into a scheduling conflict that delayed production, Paramount Network announced that the hit series would end after its fifth season. After months of speculation, Costner finally confirmed earlier this summer that he had indeed left the show. Viewers will have to tune in to see how Sheridan will write him out, however, given the cliffhanger the series left off in its midseason finale.

Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, and Kelsey Asbille co-star.

Due to a licensing deal that predated the Viacom-CBS merger, Yellowstone has been streaming exclusively on NBCUniversal-backed Peacock (and not available on Paramount+ like previous seasons; see how to watch the series here). To further boost its audience — and while viewers wait for the final episodes — CBS has been rebroadcasting the entire series on Sunday nights.
